Basic engineering for the largest concentrator in Northern Europe. The project is located in Ranua, Southern Lapland, close to the border of the Municipality of Tervola, approximately 45 kilometres south of the town of Rovaniemi. Suhanko's polymetallic deposits contain palladium, platinum, copper, nickel, rhodium, cobalt, and gold. This combination of minerals forms a "basket" of critical green energy metals essential for battery technology, the hydrogen economy, and Europe's energy transition.

Our team was involved in the basic design phase for equipment support structures and made a deliberate effort to transfer all structural decisions developed on our side to the Detail Engineering Contractor, ensuring a smooth start of the detailed engineering phase. This proactive information sharing enabled the contractor taking over the detailed engineering to avoid unnecessary recalculations of structures and optimize project timelines.

The concentrator process itself involved the use of heavy equipment. In this particular case, the equipment was among the heaviest in its class. This required the simultaneous consideration and parallel development of both steel and concrete supporting structures. The work was performed in order to provide the end Customer with CAPEX estimations for both solutions, as well as an assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of each material from the construction perspective.
